New City Catechism

Catechisms (Christian doctrine) serve three main purposes. The first purpose is to clearly explain the gospel and lay out the foundation on which the gospel is based. The second purpose is to counteract heresies, errors, and false beliefs and teachings. The third purpose is to reflect the likeness of Christ as an individual and in the church.

We will be teaching The New City Catechism during Sunday School to plant the biblical concepts in our covenantal children’s hearts and minds. Over time these concepts are waiting to be connected with new insights, teachings, and experiences.

The following excerpt is from The New City Catechism Devotional. “Catechetical instruction, Princeton theologian Archibald Alexander said, is like the firewood in a fireplace. Without the fire (the Spirit of God)  firewood will not in itself produce a warming flame. But without the fuel there can be no fire either, and that is what catechetical instruction is.”

Nursery is available for our little ones (0-2 years old) during our worship service. Children, who are 4 years old and up, worship with the congregation for the first half of the service. For the second half of the service 4 year-olds - 1st graders may go to Children’s Church for a lesson and craft.  To help our older children better participate in worship, we provide a  "Sermon Notes for Kids" section in the back of the worship bulletin.

One weekend each summer, we have Camp Logos (logos is the Greek word for "word or truth").  During Camp Logos, children hear essential truths of the Gospel, make art and crafts, and have a great time playing in the gym, in the pool or on a giant inflatable water slide.  It's a fun time for all!
